How to use itPer FDA guidance and Tampon Tribe's tips:

Wash your hands, and wash the cup following the instructions before inserting it (FDA).

Fold the cup and insert it. Tampon Tribe says it should sit a bit lower than a tampon.

To help it open and seal, push the stem up slightly, rotate the cup, or gently squeeze its base. Run a finger around the base to check for folds.

Empty and wash it every 8 to 12 hours; never longer than 12 hours.

At the end of your period, wash it and place it in boiling water for 1 to 2 minutes, or follow the cleaning instructions in the box (FDA).

Safety notes

Toxic shock syndrome has been reported with menstrual cups, though rarely. Remove the cup and get emergency care for sudden high fever, vomiting, a sunburn-like rash or dizziness during your period.
